M2 Class: 2nd Main Exam = Contrôle Final - Dec 10, 2013 / Program of revisions / REMINDERS

The 2nd Main Exam = "Contrôle Final" on Dec 10  will last around 75-80 minutes maximum and will cover: 
A/ Vocabulary/Idioms:  
False friends:  exercises 1, 2, 3 and 4 (first coulmn ie up to "prejudice" (included)) 
- Idioms "animals"
B/ Grammar (in translation):
      1/ Conditional / Wish structures: Units 38 to 41 included
                2/ Phrasal verbs: Units 145, 144, 143, 142 and 141
C/ Listening comprehension: 
There will be two unknown recordings with questions (equivalent to sections "3" and "4" of the tests we did during the semester): you will hear them twice: the first time without the questions, which means you will have to take extensive notes while listening, and a second time with the questions
On Dec 17, there will be an optional (which means we may not want to do it) "bonus" exercise that will allow all students (ie "contrôle continu" and "contrôle final students") to get up to 2 points that will be added to their Dec 10 exam grade. This will be a listening comprehension exercise. 
As a result, I strongly recommend everyone to show up and do the 2nd Short Test and this "bonus" exercise which remains optional but highly recommended. 
- CONTRÔLE FINAL STUDENTS: Dec 10 (around 80 minutes): same program of revision as mentioned above for "contrôle continu" students.

REMINDERS:
1/ We must leave the classroom at 4:55 pm maximum as there is a class after our class. 
2/ There will be no catch-up session whatsoever even if you have a valid and sincere justification.
3/ "Contrôle continu" students: second short  test: Dec 17 ("contrôle final" students can also do this test, I will take into account their grade in case their "contrôle final" grade needs to be "boosted"). In this short test, there will be a short listening comprehension exercise and a vocab test.  
4/ Please, do arrive on time if not in advance!

- Media vocabulary: the whole handout 
- False friends: exercises 1, 2 and 3
- Grammar in translation (from French into English): the sentences will be adapted from the chapters 38-41 (left and right pages)
REMINDERS:
- Since there is a class at 10 am, we must leave at around 9:55 am maximum

M1 "contrôle continu" students will have: 
 - 2 main exams (around 80 minutes):
          - 1st main exam: 30%

ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014 / CLASS SESSIONS: LOCATION, HOURS AND ROOMS / ATTENDANCE RULES

M1 Class: from 8:30 à 10 am on Tuesdays in room D 421 at Serpente , first class on September 24


M2 Class: from 3:30 pm à 5 pm on Tuesdays in room D 116 at Serpente , first class on September 24


ATTENDANCE RULES FOR M1 AND M2 STUDENTS: 

Attendance is compulsory for the students  who are in "contrôle continu": if you are absent 3 times (ie 2+1) for unjustified reasons, if you cannot provide me with a valid and sincere justification, you will be automatically registered in "contrôle final".

Those of you who would like to be in "contrôle final", I recommend that you come and talk to me about this at the end or at the beginning of a class or send me an email about this as soon as possible
 
In "contrôle continu", in case you fail to be present at one of the two main exam sessions, you will be automatically registered in "contrôle final" even if you have a valid and sincere justification.
In "contrôle continu", if you do not have a valid and sincere justification for your possible absence for the short tests and quizzes that will also take place during the semester, you will get a zero.
There will be no catch-up session whatsoever, even if you have a valid and sincere justification.
 
All my students are required to check this website on a regular basis (at least twice a week) and before coming to class.

M1 Class: 2nd Main Exam = "Contrôle Final" on May 17


The 2nd Main Exam = "Contrôle Final" on May 17 will last around 75-80 minutes maximum and will cover:

A/ Vocabulary:
 
    1/ "50 shades of gay" by Io Tillett Wright (TED)

    2/ Press Freedom (BBC report)
    3/ Tony Blair and Slavery 

    4/ Amartya SEN "What Clash of civilizations?"
    5/ Reading comprehension texts: "Learning Methods" and "History of Advertising"


B/ Grammar (in translation): 
- Grammar in translation (from French into English): 
- Units 42 to 46 included
- Units 105 to 107 included
C/ Reading comprehension: there will be an unknown text with questions

D/ Listening comprehension: you will hear extracts only twice from "50 shades of gay", "Press Freedom" and "Tony Blair and Slavery" and you will have to write a short commentary on these extracts.

E/ Essay writing: You will be asked to write an essay based on Amartya Sen's article. The subject of the essay will be given on May 17 and this will be optional. (bonus points)
